The Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) (www.ufrgs.br) is a comprehensive, public University located in Porto Alegre. It commemorated 80 years of existence in 2014, thus being one of the oldest universities in Brazil. In 2012, 2013 and 2014 the national ministry of education (INEP/MEC) has ranked the UFRGS as the best university in Brazil, and second in 2015. In international rankings (Shanghai, QS, THE), UFRGS consistently appears in the top 5 / top 10 of Latin America. With a community of 52.000 members, UFRGS provides to 30.000 undergraduate students and 17.000 graduate students educational and research opportunities in more than 90 undergrad Degrees and 81 Graduate programs. Of the graduate programs, 31 are ranked as excellent by the Brazilian national agency for evaluation and funding CAPES. The situation of both having a significant research-oriented body of students and professors, and large size, makes UFRGS a reference in Brazil and in Latin America with and an important leadership role in particular in Mercosur. Since May, 2015, UFRGS is president of the association of Universities of Montevideo (AUGM), which includes 31 public universities from Mercosur, such as UBA (Buenos Aires), UdelaR (Montevideo), and the Universidad de Chile. UFRGS has maintained and also strongly developed international partnerships in recent years and has sent more than 2.500 students abroad since 2012; UFRGS receives 700-800 international students per semester; UFRGS has Double Degree agreements at PhD and at undergraduate level.
