Water resources and pollution treatment

International Thematic Group “Water Resources and Pollution Treatment”  consists of representatives form universities of Brazil (Federal University of Minas Gerais, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), Russia (Tomsk Polytechnic University, Saint Petersburg State University), India (Indian Institute of Technology  Kanpur, National Institute of Technology Durgapur), China (Hohai University, North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power) and South Africa (Durban University of Technology, Central University of Technology), and other representatives from the universities having the status of observer (National University of Science and Technology, Moscow Power-Engineering Institute, Higher School of Economics, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Tomsk State University, Ural Federal University, Southwest University, Sichuan University). In 2016, the group was coordinated by Tomsk Polytechnic University (Russia), since 30 September 2016 Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (India) has been coordinating the ITG “Water Resources and Pollution Treatment” (ITG Chair – Prof. Vinod Tare) as it has been decided on the First ITG Meeting in Moscow.

The main purpose of the International thematic group “Water resources and pollution treatment” is to develop the concept of water resources sustainability, water conservancy and sensible approach to the water treatment and water management. Within this concept Masters and PhD programs will be developed for the joint training of qualified professionals in the area of environmental engineering, water resources management and water treatment. Furthermore, one of the objectives of the ITG is participation in the joint research projects concerned the study of natural waters, river basins and methodology of water and wastewater treatment with the focus on River Basin Studies in BRICS countries as it was identified on the first meeting of BRICS Network University in Ekaterinburg (April, 2016).
