The National Institute of Technology Durgapur [NIT Durgapur, formerly known as Regional Engineering College, Durgapur] was established in 1960.  NIT Durgapur is an Institute of National Importance under the financial assistance from Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is an autonomous institute. The institute offers B. Tech., M. Tech., M. Sc., MCA and MBA degree and Ph D degree in the following disciplines:


Engineering Departments: Biotechnology, Computer Applications, Computer Science & Engg, Information Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engg,

Thematic area: Water Resources and Pollution Treatment



The educational programmes, which the university offers to the partner NU universities in the framework of the thematic priorities of BRICS NU.


PhD programmes:

PhD programmes offered by Earth & Environmental Studies, Civil Engg, Chemical Engg, Chemistry and Biotechnology, Physics in the areas of Water resource and Pollution control. The programme is multi-disciplinary in nature.  

NIT Durgapur has supporting infrastructure for exchange of international students. Presently a good number of students from abroad are in NIT Durgapur for perusing B. Tech., M. Tech and Ph D Programme.
