The TERI University was established in 1998 and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as a deemed to be University in 1999. It commenced its masters programmes in 2003.

It offers unique programmes, not only in terms of the degrees, but in terms of the fact that they equip the graduates to lead in a resource-sensitive world.

The University offers Ph.D programmes in Biotechnology, Regulatory and Policy aspects, Energy & Environment, Business Sustainability and Natural Resources. Masters programmes are offered in Environmental Studies and Resource Management, Geo-informatics, Climate Science and Policy, Plant Biotechnology, Public Policy and Sustainable Development, Renewable Energy Engineering & Management, Urban Development & Management, Environmental and Resource Economics, Water Science & Governance and in Sustainable Development Practice. MBA programmes are offered in Infrastructure and in Business Sustainability.  An LLM programme will be on offer from 2016. The TERI University has around 600 postgraduate students, 190 PhD students, and 20 international students enrolled in different programmes. 

Set up as an educational arm of TERI, the University benefits from the traditions and record of TERI’s cutting edge research in its fields of endeavor as well as its networking infrastructure involving hundreds of institutions and organizations across the world. Its research infrastructure includes state-of-the art laboratories, well-equipped field stations and powerful connectivity through the provision of advanced information technology facilities and linkages.

The University operates from its campus at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. The campus has been designed to provide a setting that enhances learning, while simultaneously show casting the concept of modern green buildings.

M.Sc. (Environmental Studies and Resource Management)

This programme is intended to create a cadre of trained professionals who are equipped to deal with scientific, technological, legal, socio-economic and policy aspects related to environment and resource management. The curriculum has been designed seamlessly by integrating the concept of sustainable development in an inter-disciplinary framework with an emphasis on research and application. It addresses the growing need for professionals in society who can apply best management practices drawn from various disciplines to create innovative solutions for a sustainable future. The pedagogy of the programme includes face-to-face interactions, live case studies, field visits, theater, conferences, seminars and active use of information and communication technology. It trains students in sustainability and empowers them to become responsible global citizens.

M.Sc. (Climate Science and Policy)

The TERI University offers an intensive four-semester MSc programme in Climate Science and Policy intended to imbue present and future professionals with practical and theoretical knowledge in the area of scientific and policy issues relevant to climate change. The TERI University is the first to offer a programme in climate science and policy in India, which is an amalgamation of science and policy related to climate change. The University has been granted a UNESCO Chair in Climate Science and Policy, which is a prestigious award and is given to very few universities across the world. The CSP programme started in 2009 and much has been achieved ever since like 100% placements, involvement of students in the Antarctica research team, getting a UNESCO chair etc.

M.Sc. (Geoinformatics)

The MSc. programme in Geoinformatics at TERI University is a two-year interdisciplinary programme for students who want to specialize in geoinformatics for assessing, monitoring, evaluating and managing the resources across sector. The study of geoinformatics equips students with space technologies and geospatial models that can support such estimation and analysis. The core strength of the programme lies in its innovative curriculum that inspire present and future professionals with practical and theoretical knowledge in the domain of natural and human resources management. Students are exposed to a wide range of cutting-edge applications of geospatial techniques to match real-life problems. The programme is designed in a way, which provides theoretical knowledge on principles of geoinformatics with more emphasis on applications of natural resource management through hands-on demonstration, practical exercises, training programmes, 6-8 weeks summer internship, independent study and 24 weeks major project (one semester).

Ph.D. (Natural Resources Management)

All students admitted to the Ph.D. programme are required to go through pre-PhD coursework for one year. During this pre-Ph.D. programme, students will be exposed and orientated to the interdisciplinary nature of issues in the areas of environmental studies, natural resource management, climate science and policy. They must develop a basic knowledge of economics, social science, policy and research methodology in addition to a sound knowledge of ecological/environmental science. After successfully completing their pre-Ph.D. courses, students are registered for Ph.D.

 

 

Admissions: Admissions are open throughout the year. However, applications will be considered until 31 May and 31 October for admissions in the semesters commencing July and January each year.
