On April 27, 2021, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) held an annual meeting of the National Coordinating Committee of the BRICS Network University (NCC, BRICS NU, NCC BRICS NU). The meeting was attended by representatives of the universities participating in the BRICS NU and representatives of authorities and departments.
Ksenia Trinchenko, Head of the Multilateral Cooperation and International Organizations of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, delivered a welcoming speech to the event participants.
The participants discussed the current results, the main problems of the BRICS Network University and the prospects for its development. Natalya Sulkova, Deputy Vice-Rector for International Affairs of RUDN University, made a presentation on the activities of the BRICS Network University in 2020-2021: Main Results and Development Prospects.
The attending members of the NCC BRICS NU considered the draft Concept on the organization of international academic mobility of students within the BRICS Network University and the draft Concept of academic mobility of teachers, researchers, and administrative staff from the universities participating of the BRICS Network University. Both documents will be considered at the meetings of the International thematic groups of the BRICS NU in June 2021.
An important issue of the meeting can be considered the presentation of the catalog of English-language programs of Russian BRICS NU participants in priority areas of knowledge, which was presented to the meeting participants by Alexey Lizunov, Advisor to First Vice-Rector of the St. Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics.
During the meeting, the participants of the NCC BRICS NU were presented with specific proposals for the development of the scientific journal of the BRICS Network University. The proposals were made by Marina Batalina, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
Robert Fedorov, Advisor of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, spoke about the measures to implement the Road map of the BRICS NU for the short and medium term.
BRICS Network University (hereinafter – BRICS NU The BRICS NU is a unique project aimed at developing, testing and endorsing, and implementing the educational interaction model by implementing mostly bilateral/multilateral short-term joint educational programmes, master’s and postgraduate programmes, as well as joint scientific and research projects in various areas according to the general standards and quality criteria provided that the learning outcomes are in compliance with the national state standards.
Currently, the Consortium includes 56 leading universities from 5 BRICS member states: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The priority fields of study at the BRICS NU formation stage include the fields stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the BRICS Network University dated 18 November 2015:
